The New Braunfels, Texas, community is mourning the tragic loss of Nathan Verde, a 21-year-old who died following a devastating three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Loop 337 and Oak Run Parkway on Saturday afternoon. The collision also left several others injured, including a 12-year-old child who was critically hurt.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. Investigators said Nathan was driving a Chevrolet Corvette eastbound on Loop 337 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle crossed the median into the westbound lanes.
The Corvette first collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was turning onto Oak Run Parkway before striking a Tesla Model 3 that was stopped at the intersection. The impact caused Nathan to be ejected from the Corvette. Emergency responders immediately began lifesaving efforts at the scene before Nathan was transported to a local hospital. Despite those efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
The crash also seriously injured the driver of the Dodge Ram and a 12-year-old passenger, who were transported to a medical facility in Kyle. Due to the severity of the child’s injuries, the young passenger was later airlifted to a hospital in Austin for specialized treatment.
The driver of the Tesla sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening and was transported for medical evaluation. A child riding in the Tesla was not injured. Debris from the collision also struck a nearby Lincoln Navigator, though its driver escaped injury.
Authorities noted that roadway improvement work has been ongoing near the intersection, including striping, sidewalk widening, intersection realignment, and drainage upgrades. However, investigators have stated that the construction project has not been identified as a contributing factor in the crash.
As family and friends grieve Nathan’s sudden passing, they remember a young man whose life ended far too soon. His death has deeply affected those who knew and loved him, while the community continues to pray for the recovery of those injured in the collision.
