Angela “Angie” Thomas, also known as Angie Thomas or Dr. Lusty, has passed away after a sudden and devastating battle with ovarian cancer. Angie died peacefully surrounded by her family shortly before 11 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, less than two weeks after she first went to the emergency room with back pain and shortness of breath. Her unexpected death has left her husband, four young children, extended family, friends, colleagues, and countless people who knew her heartbroken.
Angie was remembered as a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend whose presence made the lives of others brighter. She was married to her husband, Nick Thomas, for 10 years, and together they built a loving family with their four children: Nathan, Liam, Aiden, and Nora. Nathan was born in 2018, followed by Liam in 2020, Aiden in 2022, and their youngest child, Nora, in 2024. To those who knew Angie, her children were among the most important parts of her life, and she devoted herself to building a loving home and giving her family a bright future.
Angie’s health crisis began on August 1, when she went to the emergency room because of back pain and difficulty breathing. What followed was a devastating diagnosis that no one expected. Doctors initially discovered ovarian cancer, and although the diagnosis was heartbreaking, her loved ones remained hopeful that Angie would fight the disease and overcome it. Sadly, the cancer had already spread to multiple organs by the time it was discovered. The complications that followed became too much for her body to overcome, turning what began as a frightening medical emergency into an unimaginable loss for her family.
Angie had been passionate about animals throughout her entire life, and her career reflected that love. She attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University, where she met Nick, the man who would become the love of her life. The couple married in 2015 and began building their family together. While their children were young, Nick became the stay-at-home parent so Angie could continue developing the veterinary career she had worked so hard to establish. In 2023, Angie and a colleague purchased Pierson Pet Hospital after its founder and namesake retired. The move represented an exciting new chapter for Angie and her family and allowed her to continue doing work she deeply loved.
For Angie’s family, the sudden loss has also created difficult financial uncertainty. Nick is now facing the responsibility of raising their four young children while managing the life and commitments the couple had built together. The family had never expected their future to change so quickly. Just weeks ago, Angie was camping with her family and helping prepare the children for the new school year. Now, Nick and the children are preparing to say goodbye to a wife and mother whose presence was at the center of their lives. A fundraiser has been organized to provide the family with financial support as they navigate the difficult days ahead. Those unable to donate are being asked to share the fundraiser and, most importantly, keep Angie’s loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.
